Designed to operate effectively on a wide range of sites, the ViO80-2PB is a true zero tail swing midi excavator – neither the counterweight nor the front part of the upper frame project beyond the track width. The X-shaped box-section structure of the undercarriage provides excellent torsional stiffness and the frame is designed for maximum robustness. The rear blind spot has been reduced toa minimum too. As the machine delivers a smooth swing, even in confined spaces, it can be used with confidence along walls without worrying about the safety of other workers.
The ViO80-2PB is equipped with a single top-mounted articulation cylinder which offers numerous advantages, not least a halving of the total cost of ownership. The cylinder rod is totally protected against damage, while the compact design with minimal hydraulic components results in the best visibility in its class, while also greatly reducing daily maintenance requirements. In addition, a 50% reduction in dead weight improves stability. The machine therefore offers outstanding break-out force as well. This particular cylinder position and orientation allows for faster boom lifting and slower lowering, important for accurate positioning of loads.
The ViO80-2PB is equipped with Yanmar’s unique VICTAS® system. This provides increased support surface and expanded tracking through the use of asymmetric crawlers. The system also reduces track degradation, makes displacements quieter and reduces vibration. Factor in the large counterweight and excellent weight distribution, and it’s not surprising that this model provides the same or even higher stability than conventional machines in the same weight class, as well as remarkable lifting capacities.
Even during the longest, most demanding days, the spacious interior, excellent all-round visibility and ergonomic design all minimise operator fatigue while maximising productivity. An air-suspended fully adjustable seat with headrest comes as standard, and the wrist supports can be repositioned too. The wide travel pedals and hydraulic control levers are fluid and easy to use, while also offering exceptional movement precision. The boom articulation is via the left control panel, with work attachments operated with the joysticks, making it easier to control everything simultaneously.
The proven four-cylinder engine features direct injection and a common rail system. It delivers net power of 39.3 kW at 1,900 rpm, yet even with this kind of performance, environment and fuel economy are top priorities, with the ViO80-2PB meeting all EU emissions standards. That’s down to features such as cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), which greatly reduces nitrogen oxides, plus diesel particulate filter (DPF) for cleaning up exhaust emissions. We have also developed an exclusive regeneration system in order to prevent clogging and cleaning down-time.
An electronic control unit manages the rpm according to the torque, optimising engine load, saving fuel and increasing productivity. In addition, numerous advanced features come as standard. These include an auto-deceleration system that switches the engine to idle if the operator doesn’t touch the operating levers for four seconds. There’s also an eco-mode feature, which effectively controls the engine speed, delivering even lower fuel consumption and reducing operating costs. It’s particularly effective in low-power and low speed of movement situations.
A new-generation ViPPS hydraulic system is configured with one double, variable displacement, piston pump alongside two gear pumps. Between them, these three pumps deliver a maximum flow of 193.8 l/min, which is available for main machine operating movements. Flows are cumulated in the main control valves to obtain the optimal combination of speed, power, smoothness and balance at any one time. This allows for seamless and simultaneous performance, even while travelling.
Standard equipment on the ViO80-2PB includes two auxiliary hydraulic circuit lines. Operation is via a proportional control function located on the joystick which adapts the flow levels and direction. The circuit also has an easy-to-operate potentiometer, which adjusts the oil flow to the optimal requirement for each and every attachment. Parts are all quickly accessible via five hoods or openings. This ensures easy daily maintenance and also reduces inspection time.
